Cheeni Movie Review: — A Mother-Daughter duo that slays the floor on fire.

For a mother, her daughter is God’s way of saying thought you could be with her as a lifelong friend. Cheeni written and directed by Mainak Bhaumik is a slice of life relationship drama between a double variegated bong girl and her millennial mother played extraordinarily by Aparajita Adhya. This film instantly hooked me up from the first scene itself, when this girl goes to the club and finds her mom dancing frenetically and senselessly. The movie itself has a strong undertone message at its core. It wraps up with a layer of humor, romance, and drama. But for me, while binging the movie thought that not every stratum of people could connect with this film because it’s not catered for the mass. More specifically speaking,

Cheeni is the kind of movie made for the Bongs. It is because Bengali moms are generalized in “A” certain manner. They are not entitled to do this or not. They abound within the boundaries. That is why this movie seems relevant. I have seen several Mainak films earlier & I feel Mainak as a filmmaker is very distinguished and confident on the kind of subject he picks up. His forte is exploring the complexities in a human relationship. I felt his sort of choice matches up with Rituparno Ghosh’s style of narrative. Mainak has this exquisite formula of presenting the movie characters in his down townish style. He writes his characters so well that as an audience, you connect with them instantly. His kind of characters always have an inner conflict going within themselves & as a filmmaker, it is hard to establish those demons through the screenplay, Brownie points for that. I also loved one of his most recent films called Generation Aami. I guess both these film was somehow or the other way very relatable. Even though the circumstances very different but at the core, the emotion was sailing in the same boat altogether. Last but not least: I would say this film has brought realistic scenarios of families drama what we see around us & our family and how long we suffer from depression that we have gone through — in the end, I want to finish with the Cheeni to life lessons. I recommend to every parent to watch out this remarkable film to figure out how depression kills families’ love bond and how they can improve further their lives a bit. You can watch this movie on Hoichoi.
